Sleuths of the Income Tax department Thursday conducted raid in the two firms of Chhattisgarh that had been associated with steel and construction business. The officials have seized the relevant documents from both the firms and were scrutinising it to establish the amount of tax evasion. The details were awaited as the officials said the investigation was still going on and the exact picture about the irregularities would be known only in a day or two.
On Thursday morning, about two dozen employees of the Income Tax (IT) department struck at the premises of Kalindi Steel and Power Limited in Bilaspur and Raipur. The team comprised officials from Raipur and Bhopal.
The owner of the firm basically belonged to Madhya Pradesh and had been operating steel and oil plant in Raipur and Bilaspur. Another team of IT officials conducted the raid at the premises and establishment of Jagdamba Construction.
