Japan ties should worry no one, says Khurshid

Press Trust Of India
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Wednesday said the warmth between India and Japan should not be a cause of concern for anyone, referring to China's reported discomfiture over the Indo-Japan ties.

"China is known to have maintained a close relation with Pakistan. We have never asked it to stop doing so nor have we given up working towards improving ties with Beijing. Similarly, our friendly relations with a country that China may not be comfortable with can not be seen as a problem," Khurshid told reporters in Allahabad.

Chinese communist party's mouthpiece, the People's Daily, had said New Delhi's wisdom lay in dealing with its disputes with Beijing calmly, undisturbed by "internal and international provocateurs".

Tax ties
India and Japan on Wednesday committed to enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and agreed to work closely to develop a conducive tax administration system and business environment.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, shared the view that business environment improvement is significant in enhancing bilateral investment and trade.
