The Kerala government has announced a new debt relief package for endosulfan victims in the Kasaragod district. The move comes as the moratorium on addressing the financial debt of the victims expired on September 30 this year.

Chief minister Oommen Chandy announced the sanction of Rs 25 crore under a package for addressing the financial debt of the victims.

It has been estimated that Rs 10 crore would be required to write-off loans of up to Rs 50,000; Rs 12 crore for loans amounting Rs 50,000-2 lakh and another Rs 3 crore for loans above Rs 2 lakh.

In case, if more than one loan was taken in the name of the victim, only those loans that can be completely repaid within the Rs 50,000 limit would only be part of the package.

Breakthrough in broadband connectivity

With the implementation of National Optical Fibre Network project, Kerala would be the first state to provide broadband internet connectivity to all villages.

This will help in the increased penetration of internet and its connectivity in rural areas, schools and hospitals, helping local communities get digital connectivity.

The project aims to provide high bandwidth internet connectivity in all villages by laying optical fiber cable (OFC).

The state Cabinet today has decided to increase the pension for dairy farmers from Rs 300 to Rs 500. The beneficiaries will be given the pension along with the arrears. The state government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for its implementation.
