The Shiv Sena on Saturday withdrew its call for a Mumbai bandh on August 1 to press demand for free houses to 108,000 textile mill workers. The party announced its decision after state chief minister Prithviraj Chavan assured the members of nine textile unions that he would form a committee to fix the price of 6,948 houses expected to be ready soon and identify land for the construction of additional houses. Chavan also spoke to Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on this.
Two days ago, during a rally of mill workers in Mumbai, Shiv Sena had called for the bandh to press for the demand. Apart from Sena, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena led by Raj Thackeray, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Republican Party of India had participated in the rally.
