Steel Imports Up 16.5% In Apr-Dec 2002

Steel imports have risen 16.5 per cent to 1.175 million tonnes in the April-December period as compared to the corresponding period in the last fiscal.
AS Firoz, chief economist, Joint Plant Committee in the steel ministry, said the primary reason for an increase in imports was the advanced licence scheme in the iron and steel sector.
