Legal Sanctity Sought For E-Cheque Facility

A standing committee of the Reserve Bank of India has pushed for suitable amendments to the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act to bring it in line with the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 in order to give finality and legal backing to payments made via e-cheques.

Facilitation of payments via e-cheques was overlooked when the IT Act was passed in 2000.
