Abba wore outrageous outfits to avoid paying taxes

Abba's former band member Bjorn Ulvaeus has admitted that the garish outfits, including the glittering hotpants, sequined jumpsuits and platform heels, were worn by the group as part of a tax-saving scheme.

According to Abba: The Official Photo Book, the Swedish group's trademark stage costumes were designed keeping in mind the Swedish laws that allowed cost of outfits to be deducted against tax if the clothes were too outrageous to be worn on a daily basis, the Guardian reported.

Ulvaeus asserted in the book that he honestly thought that he and his band mates looked like nuts in their heydays in the 70s, adding that nobody can have been as badly dressed on stage as they were.
