Convicted rapist and former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans has apologized for the consequences of his actions in 2011 after his proposed deal to join League One club Oldham Athletic collapsed.

Evans said that he wholeheartedly apologize for the effects that night in Rhyl had had on many people, not least the woman concerned, the BBC reported.

Commenting on the collapsed deal, he said that the more radical elements of their society had the desired influence on some sponsors.

Evans, who scored 42 goals for Sheffield United, was released from prison in October after completing half of a five-year sentence for the rape of a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room in 2011.
