TV channel E! has issued an apology to actor Michael J. Fox for turning his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease into an on-screen "fun fact" graphic during their coverage of 2014's Golden Globes red carpet.

The graphic displayed, which read "Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1991," started a storm on social media, where the "fun fact" segment of the show was highly criticized, Stuff.co.nz reported.

However, the network later realised their mistake and said in a statement that they regret the insensitive classification of the 52-year-old star's condition during their E! online live stream.

The network added that they understood the serious nature of the disease and sincerely apologise.
