West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that she would be meeting Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her three-day visit to the country.
"Our trip to Bangladesh is a historic step. We had gone to Singapore as well which had a very good impact. I love Bangladesh and I think of it as my second home. I am going to have a meeting with Sheikh Hasina as well as the President of Bangladesh. We also have a business meet there where a delegation from both the countries are to discuss," said Banerjee.
"Sushma Swaraj had called me today and wished me luck for today. I told her that I would try my best for better relationship between both the countries. I want improved exchange between West Bengal and Bangladesh, be it in the field of business, tourism or transport," she added.
However, the West Bengal Chief Minister refused to comment on the Teesta water sharing pact and termed it to be an "extremely sensitive issue".
Banerjee will be on a three day-visit to Bangladesh beginning today to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and her state. She is expected to reach Dhaka this evening.
It is being speculated that she would initiate talks over the settlement of Teesta water sharing pact and ratification of the land boundary agreement.
