On the 70th anniversary of Hiroshima atomic bombings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to all those who lost their lives in the incident.

"My homage to all those who lost their lives in Hiroshima. The bombings remind us of the horrors of war and their effect on humanity," he tweeted.

"Solution to problems of humanity lie in peace and progress. Let us walk shoulder to shoulder to create a peaceful world, free from violence," the Prime Minister added.

In August 1945, during the final stage of the Second World War, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing over 1,29,000 people.
