CAG now finds fault with urban infrastructure renewal

IANS New Delhi

The Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report tabled Thursday in parliament said there were delays by some state governments in releasing the matching share to implementing agencies.

"We found delays in release of the matching share of the urban local bodies towards execution of projects," the report said.

The CAG said state level nodal agencies of 25 states and union territories have not created the Revolving Fund for meeting operations and maintenance expenses of assets created under the scheme.

It said utilisation certificates of about Rs.10,000 crore of various categories were outstanding in the urban development and housing ministries from states and union territories.

Of the 82 housing projects selected for audit, the CAG found seven had not even started and one project had been abandoned. Only one selected project was reported completed, while the remaining 73 projects were still incomplete.
