Iran, Armenia to expand cooperation in energy sector: Report

Iran and Armenia have decided to enhance their cooperation in the energy sector as they reached an agreement regarding it, a media report said here Thursday.

The two sides agreed to construct a new power transmission line to boost the exchange of electricity between the two countries at a meeting between Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and his Armenian counterpart Armen Movsisian here Tuesday, reported Xinhua citing Tehran Times.

They also agreed to start bartering Armenian electricity for Iran's natural gas and build a new dam and hydroelectric power plant over the Aras river on their shared border, the report said.

 

Around 1.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas has been traded with Armenian electricity during the 2007-2012 period, the National Iranian Gas Company stated recently.
