Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday planted a 'Kadamb' (Neolamarckia Cadamba) sapling at his official residence to mark the World Environment Day.
Modi used the occasion to urge every family in the country to plant trees in the upcoming monsoon season.
The families should also take pride in the number of trees planted by them, in the same way they take pride in worldly possessions, an official release quoted him as saying.
"Living in harmony with nature is the only way to avoid a catastrophic situation on mother earth," he said.
