The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Wednesday said it had cancelled the press accreditation of Brajesh Kumar Thakur, the main accused in the Muzaffarnagar shelter home rapes case.

The PIB also requested Ministries and Departments concerned to withdraw facilities provided to Thakur on the basis of his PIB card, that is, Central Government Health Scheme facility, government accomodation and railway pass.

"It has been decided, with approval of the competent authority, to cancel the PIB Press Accreditation card number 2275 issued to Brajesh Kumar, Correspondent, Pratah Kamal, Hindi daily, with immediate effect in view of his involvement in alleged criminal activities," a PIB statement said here.

Thakur is lodged in jail after his arrest in the case, which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken up for probe.

As many as 34 minor girls were sexually assaulted in Balika Grih, a short-stay girls' shelter home run by an NGO of Thakur in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.

The shelter home has been sealed after the crime came out during a social audit by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
