Power hike in Delhi rolled back

Within 24 hours of announcing a 7 percent hike in power tariff in the national capital, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission Friday rolled back its decision.

DERC chairman P.D. Sudhakar told IANS that the decision to hike the electricity rates was shelved because "power generator National Thermal Power Corporation did not provide complete information on the power generation cost charged by it from the power distribution companies".

"We have asked for complete information on their power generation cost and will re-examine the tariff cost again. Till then, we have decided to withdraw the tariff hike," said Sudhakar.

The state power regulator Thursday allowed a hike in the power tariff on the basis of re-introduction of the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC) surcharge to effect an increase of tariff by up to 7 percent from Saturday.

The AAP and the Congress had slammed the BJP which is leading the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre.
