FM prefers to hold regular meetings to follow up on the pace of work rather than delegating this responsibility

Who is the most powerful bureaucrat under Finance Minister P Chidambaram? It’s not the Finance Secretary R S Gujral or Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram. It’s the finance minister himself, at least according to some bureaucrats in the ministry. Instead of delegating the job to his secretaries, he holds regular meetings with different departments of the ministry to ensure that things are moving forward. Officials say they are running from pillar to post to keep pace with their boss who, they say, works at the speed of light.
