Bihar’s outgoing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today told JD-U workers that he would return to power, if his party wins assembly election next year.
Addressing his party worker near his official residence in Patna, Kumar told that his decision to quit, after decimation in the Lok Sabha elections, is not an ordinary one and it took courage.
“We based our campaign on development issues and special status for Bihar. However, for whatever reasons, the mandate was not in our favour. Still we respect the people’s verdict.”
Kumar resigned on Saturday after his party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections. The JD-U managed to win only 2 out of 40 seats in Bihar, while the NDA won 31 seats in the state.
“These are difficult times and we have to take difficult decisions. It’s not an emotional decision, but it has been taken after a long thought process. It was not an ordinary decision, but took a lot of courage,” said Kumar
He said that he would now concentrate in building party from the roots and for that he travel throughout the state ahead of assembly polls due next year.

“I have told our party’s legislators that I would lead my party in next year’s assembly election. If we get a majority, then I would return to power. However, today the party needs me. Today, the state is in better shape. Nobody can say that nothing has been done in last 8 years.”
