Three women drowned in a 50-feet
deep well, two of them trying to save the other who tripped and fell into it at a farm near Pollachi in the district, police said today.
The incident occurred in Samathur last evening when 57-year old Balamani tripped and fell into the well. Her neighbour caught hold of her hand and tried to rescue her, but both of them went down together.
The other woman who was with them called up the husband of one of the victims and informed him about the incident. She later jumped into the well to rescue the other two, but all three drowned.
The bodies were reecovered today, police added.
