At least 47 Pakistani Hajj pilgrims were injured when a massive construction crane crashed into Mecca's Grand Mosque, killing over 100 people, officials said today.

"Twenty-two Pakistanis are under treatment in hospitals, while 25 others received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment," Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalillulah said.

Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf told Radio Pakistan that seven among the injured are in critical condition.

"We are in constant contact with the Saudi authorities and we have been informed that Pakistani doctors are also providing medical aid to the injured," he said.

At least 107 people were killed and 238 injured in the accident that occurred yesterday.

According to official figures, around 1,50,000 Pakistanis are in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, an obligatory ritual once in life for every Muslim who is not hampered by financial constraints or bad health.
