Activists of Handicapped and Blind Union Punjab today blocked traffic at Sugar mill crossing to protest against alleged misbehavior of a cop with one of their colleagues.

Led by state President Lakhbir Singh Saini, the protesters, on wheel chairs and crutches, blocked the National Highway 1.

Saini alleged that a police constable Jagdish Kumar slapped a differently-abled Gyan Chand and misbehaved with his wife Anju Bala when Chand had gone to local civil hospital for getting his medical certificate.

"Gyan Chand fell down from his wheel chair after he was slapped. They faced a lot of hardships in getting certificates about their disability," claimed Saini.

Jagdish Kumar, who was on security guard duty in the hospital, however denied the allegations.

Senior Medical Officer Joginder Singh also denied any hassles to the handicapped during making of certificates.

The protesters, during their prolonged parleys with police demanded that the erring cop should be suspended.

The matter was later solved after the intervention of City SHO Inderjit Singh and SMO Joginder Singh.

Traffic on Phagwara-Nakodar, Phagwara-Hoshiarpur, Phagwara-Nawanshahr and arterial roads were affected due to the blockade.
