Ashraf asks authorities to work to build a temple in Islamabad

Ashraf issued the directive to the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority following a request from Ramesh Lal, a Hindu parliamentarian of the ruling Pakistan People's Party.

Ramesh Lal requested the premier to allocate land for constructing a mandir for the Hindu community of Islamabad.

"The Prime Minister directed the Chairman of CDA to identify an appropriate place for a mandir," said a statement from the premier's office.

Islamabad has several old temples though none of them are currently in use.

Hindus living in the federal capital usually go to the garrison city of Rawalpindi, which has several functioning temples, to participate in religious festivals.

 

The premier also held a separate meeting with Religious Affairs Minister Khursheed Shah and reviewed arrangements for the Haj pilgrimage.
