Authorities will now arrest any person who tries to approach the accident-prone Ganga barrage, a move that comes following the recent incident in which seven youths lost their lives while taking selfie.

According to the district administration's estimate, since September 2015, 24 persons, mostly youths, have lost their lives at the site.

The district administration has provisioned the arrest of anyone who goes beyond the slope at the Ganga barrage under section 151 of the CrPC.

The administration is also constructing a 8-10 ft high barricade at the site to prevent people from going beyond the dangerous point.

"Police personnel have been stationed near the barrage to prevent people from putting themselves in precarious situations," said Shalabh Mathur, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The construction of barricade has already begun even as the number of life guards have been increased.
