A six-year-old boy and his toddler sister were charred to death in a fire that engulfed their hut in Amolpura village of the district.

Parents of the children were not home when the fire broke out at the thatched roof of their hut yesterday, police said today.

Ashu and his one-year-old sister Vandana died in the blaze.

Both the children were alone when the thatched roof made up of dried grass came in contact with spark of fire from an earthen stove yesterday afternoon, police said, adding that their parents had gone to work in mines.

Fire fighters were called from the neighbouring Badi town, but it was all finished by the time the assistance reached, a police officer said.

The bodies of the children were handed over to the parents after post mortem examination, he said.
