An 8-year-old girl and her younger brother, who were riding pillion on a two-wheeler driven by their mother, were crushed to death by a state-run bus near Januman Akhara here this morning.
According to police, Jatinder Kaur, a resident of Dhabawali village, was on her way to attend a marriage at Dhakkar village in Gurdaspur district along with her son Sahibjot Singh (5) and daughter Palakpreet Kaur (8) when the incident took place.
Jatinder was trying to negotiate a pothole filled with rainy water near Hanuman Akhara here when the vehicle skidded and the kids fell under the wheels of a bus which was close behind, a police official said.

The bus driver sped away after the accident, he said, adding the woman had sustained injuries in the accident.
A case has been registered in connection with the accident and further investigations are on.
