Thane police in Maharashtra are looking for the unidentified owner of a buffalo which attacked and injured two persons in Bhiwandi town of the district two days ago.

Shamsuddin Choudhary (30), one of the victims, said in his complaint that he was standing on a road, looking for auto-rickshaw for going to his sister's house on Bakr-Id on Monday, when something hit him from behind.

He fell unconscious, Choudhary said.

After he was admitted to a hospital and regained consciousness, he was told that a buffalo had run into him, a police official said.

The same animal had knocked down another man and he too had been hospitalised, Choudhary learnt.

He lodged a complaint with Bhiwandi police on Wednesday against the unidentified buffalo owner under IPC sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or safety of others).

Police were trying to identify the buffalo owner, the official said, adding that the four-legged 'culprit' too was untraceable.
