C'garh: woman beaten up for alleged extra-marital affair

Press Trust of India Raipur
Police have arrested eight people who allegedly thrashed a 28-year-old woman because she had an affair with a married man in the tribal-dominated Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh.

The incident took place in Mandherwar village under Farsabhar police station limits on Saturday, Station House Officer B S Rajpur told PTI.

The arrested persons were identified as Rameshwar Ram, Muneshwar, Hiralal, Mulukram, Ravi, Mehruram, Bahulram (all aged between 25 to 40 years) and a woman called Saniyaro Bai (26).

They have been booked under sections 452 (house-trespass after preparation for assault), 294 (obscene acts in any public place), 506 (intentional insult), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 147 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code, Rajpur said.

According to the police, Saniyaro suspected that the woman had illegitimate relations with her husband.

On Saturday night, Saniyaro and her relatives with some others in the village dragged the victim out of house, tore her clothes and beat her up.

The woman took refuge in the village Sarpanch's house. The accused also thrashed the woman's husband.

The complaint was lodged yesterday, following which the arrests were made.
