Chinese Ambassador calls on Pondy Lt Governor

China's Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui called on Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi at her office here today.

The Ambassador was on an official visit to the union territory to participate in a symposium on the Chinese scholar Hu Hsu, who settled down at Aurobindo Ashram here, a release from Raj Nivas said.

The Ambassador recalled the historical and cultural connection between the People's Republic of China and India, it said.

Zhaohui was accompanied by his wife Dr Jiang Yili.

Hsu had resided at the ashram for 27 years and translated the works of Aurobindo as well as ancient Indian Sanskrit texts including the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita into Chinese.
 

Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador met Chief Minister V Narayanasamy at his office.

Official sources described it as a courtesy call.
