CM lays foundation stone for new government medical college

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today laid the foundation stone for M K Jinachandran memorial Government Medical College to be built at Kalpetta in Wayanad district at the cost of Rs 950 crore.

"The government has taken all measures to eradicate thebackwardness of the hilly district and as a part of it an alternative Wayanad ghat road will commence soon", he said.

About 50 acres land for the college and hospital had beengiven free of cost to the government by the Chandra Prabha trust and it will be developed as a medical city in Wayanad.

In the initial phase, the construction of the medical college will be completed at a cost of Rs 350 crore.
 

Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Youth Affairs Minister P KJayalakshmi, PWD Minister P K Ibrahim Kunju and Janata Dal (United) State President, M P Veerendrakumar were among those who attended the function.
