Cobra, sand boa rescued in Dwarka

A cobra and a common sand boa have been rescued from snake charmers in Dwarka, a wildlife NGO today said.

The snakes are currently under the care of Wildlife SOS and will be released into their natural habitat, once deemed fit.

The NGO in a statement said its Rapid Response unit received a call about two snake charmers in a residential colony in Dwarka's Sector-15, who were exploiting the snakes to dupe the public into believing that they brought good luck and had medicinal values.

A two-member rescue team arrived at the location and rescued the snakes with the help of police.
 

Geeta Seshamani, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, "Capturing snakes and using them for display and entertainment, is banned and a jailable offence under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
