The Jammu and Kashmir Congress unit today strongly condemned repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) by Pakistan targeting civilian areas.

"Since independence, the residents of border areas have been suffering continuously. They were uprooted in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, and now again they are facing the brunt of the ceasefire violations," senior congress leader and former deputy chief minister Tara Chand said.

Demanding monetary compensation for the border residents, the Congress leader said the government must immediately allot five marla plot to each family living along the LoC and IB in safer areas.

"The previous National Conference-Congress government had initiated the process of giving the plots to border residents, but the current dispensation did not proceed on it. The government must immediately sanction the plots for them," he said.

He also demanded Rs 10 lakh for each family living on the border for construction of houses at safer locations.
