Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) chief Charanjit Singh Channi today alleged that the ruling SAD-BJP combine was working on a "common design" to "disturb" the peace in the state.
Referring to Saturday's attack on RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja at Jalandhar, he alleged that the law-and-order situation in the state had become "worse".
"Both the SAD and the BJP are working mutually, in accordance with a common design, to disturb the peace in the state," Channi said, asking the BJP to end its alliance with the SAD.

He alleged that the SAD had a "well-planned design" to "disturb" the peace in the state so that it would be able to "play the communal card" in the 2017 Assembly election.
The Congress leader said he has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on the "deteriorating" law-and-order situation in Punjab.
"The murderous attack on RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja on a busy road in Jalandhar is not an ordinary crime. It has very serious ramifications. A woman accused of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib was gunned down near Gurdwara Manji Sahib at Alamgir a few days back. There is a palpable pattern and it is alarming," said Channi, adding that these incidents could well be compared to the situation prevailing in the state during the beginning of militancy in the 1980s.
Accusing the BJP of shedding "crocodile tears" on the attack on Gagneja, the Congress leader alleged, "The SIT has been formed only to cover up the incident and not to expose the real culprits.
