Press Trust of India Erode (TN)

: CPI national secretary D Raja Friday said he would raise in the Rajya Sabha the farmers' protest against the Tamil Nadu government over installing high-power lines in their fields.

He said this while interacting with the farmers who have been agitating for the 12th successive day near Perundurai in the district, in support of their demand.

Besides, he asked the state government to consider the farmers appeal not to install the high-powerlines in the fields, instead have underground cables on the road margin as was being done in Kerala.

Raja said the government should call the farming community for talks over the issue and solve it amicably.

Also, he called on the six farmers, including four women, who fainted during the course of their protest against the installation of powerlines in their fields.
