Cop hangs self over 'love affair'

A 31-year-old police constable allegedly committed suicide at his house in Chilkalguda area here in the early hours today, the police said.

G Thani, posted at Market Police Station, took the extreme step after making a video phone call to a woman with whom he was having an affair, according to police.

"He came to the house at around 2 am and hanged himself to the ceiling fan of his room with a rope. At around 6 am his father noticed him hanging," Chilkalguda police station inspector Harish Koushik told PTI.

Thani had joined as a constable in 2010.

No suicide note was found at the spot. However, based on preliminary investigation it has been revealed that he was in love with a woman while working in Santoshnagar police station here earlier, the inspector said, adding that the "love failure seems to have led him to end his life".
 

A case was registered and further probe is on.
