Some 700-odd corrugated box makers of eastern India have called for a two-day protest closure of their units on May 2 and 3 to press for hike in prices of their products.
A protest closure on May 2 and 3 has been called to make people aware of what the industry is currently going through, Eastern India Corrugated Box Manufacturers' Association (EICMA) president Milan Kumar Dey said in a statement.
"We had been appealing for a 15-20 per cent rise in the pricing of the boxes as average price of key raw materials have gone up by Rs 3,000 in the last two to three months, which accounts for 70-75 per cent of the total input cost," he said.
The industry is fragmented and dominated by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and employs more than three lakh workers directly and indirectly in the region.
