People should be made aware of the close relationship between tobacco and cancer, UP Governor Ram Naik, on the eve of World No Tobacco Day, said today.
Observing that changes in the life-style were increasing the cases of the disease, he called for stringent measures to stop use of the tobacco among masses.
Naik, while participating at a conference here, said awareness was the key to preventing the disease.
"Studies show that 50 per cent cases of cancer are tobacco-generated and by stopping tobacco use, we can save every year around four lakh people from dying," Organising Secretary of the conference Dr Sandeep Agarwal said.
