The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized 20 kg of smuggled gold worth around Rs 5.77 crore from a consignment at the Hazira port here.

The gold, which was in the form of bars, was concealed inside an embroidery machine, a DRI release said.

The embroidery machine was kept in a container which was unloaded at Hazira port from a ship which reached here yesterday from China, it said.

Based on a specific tip off, DRI officials thoroughly checked all the containers and found the gold concealed in that machine. Two persons have been detained by the officials for questioning, it added.

Last month, the DRI had seized 52 kg of smuggled gold, worth around Rs 15 crore from a consignment imported by a firm at Mundra port in Kutch district.
