The Election Commission today removed a police officer in Durgapur town from election duty in response to a complaint received by it.

EC officials said they had received a complaint that the officer-in-charge of Durgapur Police Station did not stop a motorbike rally brought out by a local CPI-M leader on April 8.

All rallies on motorised two-wheelers are banned by the poll watchdog.

"After investigation by the police observer, the officer was found guilty and removed from poll duty," an official said.

Voting will be held in Durgapur tomorrow in second part of the first phase of the Assembly polls.
