Economist Johan Zyl appointed to Shriram Capital board

Financial services firm Shriram Capital today said it has appointed agricultural economist Johan van Zyl as an independent non-executive director on its board with effect from February 19.

Zyl has served as Group CEO of South African financial services Group Sanlam, which is in partnership with Shriram Life Insurance and Shriram General Insurance.

"Zyl's appointment is an extension of the strategic long-term partnership between the Sanlam Group and Shriram Group as we seek to explore synergies and imbibe the best-of- class processes and practices in the financial services arena," Shriram Capital Chairman Arun Duggal said in a release.

Zyl has worked for the South African Government as an economist. He taught agricultural economics at the University of Pretoria and has also worked with the World Bank.
