Eight people killed in jeep accidents in western Nepal

At least eight people have been killed in two separate accidents when their jeep plunged into a paddy field and a river in western Nepal, police said today.

At least five people were killed today when a jeep veered off a hilly road at Lamjung in western Nepal. Two people have been critically injured in the accident, police said.

The incident took place near Belauti Bisauna in Lamjung when a Bolero jeep heading from Manang district met with an accident. The jeep fell around 200 meters down in the paddy filed near the Marsyandi River.

The injured were taken to Lamjung Community Hospital for first-aid treatment and after that they were rushed to Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, said DSP Shambhu Prasad Dhakal.
 

Seven people were traveling in the ill-fated jeep.

Meanwhile, in another road accident on Tuesday three people have been killed when a jeep believed to be carrying six persons fell into the Mahakali River.

The jeep was heading to district headquarters Khalanga from Dhap of Api municipality.
