Even elderly people from well off families are seen seeking old-age pension, Jharkhand Assembly was today informed.

Responding to a query in the House, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said the aim behind old-age pension scheme was to give pension to only those elderly people who did not have anybody to look after.

But, even people from well off families were seen seeking old-age pension, Das said.

Calling for a change in such mindset, Das said only the needy would get the benefit.

The Chief Minister, however, said the Widow Pension Scheme would cover all BPL/APL families.

Parliamentary Affairs minister Saryu Roy had on February 23 said the Widow Pension Scheme underlined in the 2016/17 Budget would cover 18 years and above.
