Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said the district administration will get FIR registered against those polling staff who fail to report for duty for Shahkot Assembly bypoll.

He also directed the officials concerned to issue issue show cause notices to employees who have not reported for election duty so far.

The employees who were absent from rehearsals for the bypoll would face stern disciplinary action, the deputy commissioner was quoted as saying in a release.

Sharma said if the employees were not able to give any satisfactory reply then FIR would be registered against them.

Besides lodging of FIR against the erring employees, the administration would initiate disciplinary proceedings against the staff under section 134 of the Representation of the People Act, Sharma said.

He said the employees who do not report in the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) by tomorrow evening would be assumed to have willfully disobeyed the duty orders.

The Shahkot bypoll would be held on May 28 and results would be declared on May 31. It was necessitated following the death of sitting Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Ajit Singh Kohar.
