A major fire broke out in a heritage bungalowthat housed the office of Kumaun Mandal Vikas Nigam(KMVN) in the wee hours here today damaging property worth crores of rupees.
"The British era building was almost completely destroyed in the fire apparently caused by a short circuit," KMVN Managing Director, Dheeraj Garbiyal told PTI.
Though the extent of damage is yet to be ascertained it must run into crores. Vital documents like old records and publicity material were also gutted in the fire, he said.

"The cause of the fire is being looked into," the official said.
The fire was first noticed at 4.30 AM and it took fire fighters nearly an hour to arrive at the spot to douse the flames which werestill rising from the building till early noon hours.
