: A fire broke out in a private gas filling unit at Poolakattunagar village in the district, injuring a worker, police said.
The unit was supplying cylinders to gas welding units.
The incident occurred at around 1.00 PM today when the worker was filling gas in a welding cylinder. A fire suddenly broke out, injuring the worker and destroying materials kept nearby.
Factory personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames, police said.
The fire triggered panic among residents of nearby villages who feared an explosion would occur.Their fears were put to rest after fire service personnel informed them that the flames had been doused
The injured worker has been hospitalised, police said, adding that the factory owner is being questioned.
