Former Rajasthan minister Gangaram Choudhary dead

Former minister Gangaram Choudhary died at a private hospital here late last night after a brief illness.

He was 92.

The body of Choudhary, a veteran politician from Barmer and eight-time MLA, was cosigned to flames in his home town this afternoon. Hundreds of people cutting across party lines attended his last rites.

Choudhary was admitted to hospital in three days ago and was kept on ventilator.

He was survived by a son.

Choudhary started his political career in 1953 with the as president of Jila Sahkar Sangh of Barmer and contested his first in 1962 from the Gudamalani constituency.

He contested nine Assembly elections and won eight times.

Later he joined Lokdal, Janta Dal and BJP, and was elected in 2003 from the Chohtan Assembly constituency.

He also held the position of Barmer Jial Pramukh twice and Pradhan once.

Throughout his life, Choudhary fought for the rights of farmers, said a local leader.
