Four traffic police officials were caught red-handed while allegedly taking bribes from truck drivers in the city in a special surveillance drive by the vigilance branch, police said today.
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) rank official, identified as Mahabir Singh, posted at Delhi Cantonment area was caught by the special surveillance team on November 24, when he allegedly charged Rs 500 from a truck driver in lieu of a chalaan, said a senior police official.
The next day, the team caught three officials deployed at GT Karnal Road. They were identified as constables Punit and Vishal and ASI Anil Kumar, said a senior official.

They allegedly charged Rs 400 from a driver and issued him a Rs 200 chalaan, pocketing in the other half, said the senior official.
The Vigilance Branch has recommended departmental action against all the four traffic policemen. They are likely to face transfers and even suspension, the official added.
At least 18 policemen have come under the vigilance department's scanner every week this year for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
Records of Delhi Police reveal that around 850 departmental enquiries have been initiated so far this year against at least as many police officials, based on complaints which were supported with "actionable evidence".
