Gaurav enters main draw of Malaysia GPG

Young shuttler Gaurav Venkat advanced to the main draw of the men's singles competition but it was curtains for rest of the Indians in the qualifying round of the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold here today.

Gaurav, top seeded in qualifiers, defeated Malaysian Zheng Lai Ee 21-9 21-12 in a 21-minute match. He will next take on compatriot and sixth seed RMV Gurusaidutt in the main draw of men's singles.

India's Manish Gupta, however, could not cross the first hurdle as he lost to local shuttler Zulhelmi Zulkiffli 17-21 17-21.

Men's doubles pair of Shiva Kumar Muthyal and Dinesh T, Mayank Behal and Gaurav and combo of Prem Singh Chouhan and Manish Gupta also suffered defeats in the first round.
