Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today asked the state government to evolve a "strong" policy to control commercial activities in residential areas in cities.
A state-level policy be framed on the extension of commercial activities like opening of shops in the residential areas so that life of common man was not disturbed, Gehlot said in a statement here.
Strict penal lines be drawn in the policy so that two areas -- commercial and residential -- are not mixed up, and if any one violates, he should be punished, he suggested.

Not only small shops but also malls are being erected in residential colonies and the Urban Development and Housing Department is not taking any action against such illegal activities, Gehlot alleged.
To contain pollution, to resolve parking problems, and mobility of citizens, the policy was required, he added.
In another statement, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Sachin Pilot alleged that the state government was changing the school syllabus by thrusting its ideology.
History was being changed in the text books from classes I to VIII, and ideology of BJP and Sangh Pariwar was being imposed in new text books, he alleged.
Information related National Congress and its leaders were being dropped from the text books which was "most unfortunate", and being done with mala fide intention, Pilot added.
