The Centre is showcasing films to children in various languages across the country, a move aimed at instilling values among kids through the medium of entertainment.

The Children Film Society of India (CFSI), an autonomous body under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), has screened over 800 shows since August last year which were watched by nearly 3 lakh children.

The initiative -- 'CFSI Film Bonanza' -- is aimed at inculcating values through the mode of cinema which is a very powerful medium, specially in case of children, a senior ministry official said.

It is based on the fact that childhood is the best age group when values can be easily grasped by children, the official added.

The CFSI organises these shows on LCD screens in various schools or community halls in collaboration with the district administration or the NGOs. The films are shown free of cost to the children.

The society has a catalogue of over 260 films, including films of noted director Satyajit Ray, in 15 different languages, the official said.

As many as 59 shows were screened in Nellore district of Tamil Nadu from August 17-24 last year which were watched by nearly 57,000 children.

During the same duration, 105 shows were screened in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu which were watched by over 55,000 children.

Other districts where the films were screened included Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Theni, Salem, Trichy, and Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu), Patna (Bihar), Karnal and Faridabad (Haryana), Imphal (Manipur), Gandhinagar (Gujarat) and Indore (Madhya Pradesh).
