A group of people, including some women, have been booked for allegedly attacking a police party that had gone to nab three accused in a criminal case in Ulhasnagar here, police said today.
On a tip off that the trio, accused in a case of theft of 2014, were present at their homes in Ulhasnagar camp no. 2 area, a police team comprising officers and constables reached the spot at around 2 PM yesterday, Thane Police PRO Sukhada Narkar said.
As soon as the police team arrived at the spot, relatives of one of the accused and others allegedly pelted stones at them and manhandled them, enabling the accused to flee the site.

Soon when additional force arrived, the locals managed to escape the spot by traversing through narrow lanes in the slum, the officer said.
Around six policemen sustained minor injuries in the attack, the PRO said, adding nearly 20 persons, including four-five women, have been booked in this connection.
The case was lodged with Ulhasnagar police under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 224 (obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage) and other relevant sections of Criminal Law Amendment Act.
